What to Do If the ADAS System Is Not Working on BYD Denza N9

What to Do If the ADAS System Is Not Working on BYD Denza N9

ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance System. In the BYD Denza N9, this can include features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, and other smart driving assistance functions.

If the ADAS system is not working, treat it as a safety-related issue. Do not rely on the car to steer, brake, or warn you until the issue is fixed.

1. Check the warning message first

Start by reading the exact message shown on the screen or instrument cluster.

Common messages may look like:

ADAS unavailable
Camera blocked
Radar blocked
Smart driving unavailable
Lane assist unavailable
ACC unavailable
AEB unavailable
Sensor fault
Calibration required

The message is important because it tells you whether the issue is temporary, blocked sensors, software-related, or a real fault.

2. Clean the cameras and sensors

Many ADAS problems happen because the car’s cameras or radar sensors cannot “see” properly. BYD owner manuals warn that functions like lane departure warning may be interrupted if the multi-purpose camera is blocked or exposed to poor visibility conditions. (BYD)

Clean these areas carefully:

  • Front windshield area behind the rear-view mirror.

  • Front bumper / grille radar area.

  • Side cameras.

  • Rear cameras.

  • Parking sensors.

  • Mirror cameras, if equipped.

  • Any visible camera or sensor cover.

Use a soft microfiber cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or high-pressure water directly on sensors.

Common causes:

  • Dust.

  • Mud.

  • Rain.

  • Fog.

  • Snow or ice.

  • Dead insects.

  • Stickers on the windshield.

  • Window tint blocking the camera area.

  • Strong direct sunlight.

  • Condensation on the windshield.

ADAS cameras and radar can also be affected by dirt, debris, bugs, precipitation, and bright sunlight. (I-CAR)

3. Restart the car system

After cleaning the sensors:

  1. Park the car safely.

  2. Shift to P / Park.

  3. Turn the car off.

  4. Lock the car.

  5. Wait a few minutes.

  6. Unlock and start the car again.

  7. Check whether the ADAS warning disappeared.

Sometimes the system needs a fresh start after the camera or radar was blocked.

4. Check whether ADAS features are disabled in settings

The system may not be faulty. Some features may simply be turned off.

Check:

Settings → Driving Assistance

or:

Settings → ADAS / Intelligent Driving / Smart Driving

Then check that the relevant features are enabled:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control.

  • Lane Keeping Assist.

  • Lane Departure Warning.

  • Blind Spot Detection.

  • Forward Collision Warning.

  • Automatic Emergency Braking.

  • Traffic Sign Recognition.

Also check whether the car is in a special mode that disables some assistance features.

5. Check driving conditions

ADAS may stop working temporarily in certain conditions.

This can happen during:

  • Heavy rain.

  • Thick fog.

  • Sandstorms.

  • Very bright sun facing the camera.

  • Poor road markings.

  • Construction roads.

  • Roads with unclear lanes.

  • Very narrow roads.

  • Dirty windshield.

  • Night driving with poor visibility.

  • Extreme heat affecting sensor performance.

If the warning disappears after the road or weather improves, it was probably a temporary visibility issue.

6. Check for recent changes to the car

ADAS problems can happen after physical changes to the vehicle.

Think if anything happened recently:

  • Windshield replacement.

  • Front bumper repair.

  • Accident or small hit.

  • Pothole impact.

  • New tint installation.

  • New sticker or dashcam near the camera.

  • Front grille modification.

  • Sensor cover replacement.

  • Software update.

  • Battery replacement.

  • Wheel alignment or suspension work.

ADAS sensors can require calibration after repairs, glass replacement, bumper work, or sensor alignment changes. Misaligned sensors can cause inaccurate or unavailable ADAS functions. (ADAS Depot)

7. Check for software updates

If the sensors are clean and the warning stays, check for a DiLink / vehicle software update.

Try:

Settings → System → Version → Software Update

or:

Settings → System → Upgrade

If an update is available, install it while the car is parked and connected to stable Wi-Fi.

Do not install unofficial firmware or “ADAS unlock” files from Telegram or forums. Wrong firmware can break the infotainment or affect vehicle safety systems.

8. Do not test ADAS manually

Do not try to test emergency braking by driving toward a person, wall, car, or object. BYD manuals explicitly warn not to test lane departure warning functions on your own for safety reasons. (BYD)

Also, do not assume that ADAS will always detect everything. Even when working normally, ADAS is only an assistance system. The driver must stay in control.

9. Contact Denza / BYD service if the issue remains

Contact the dealer or service center if:

  • The ADAS warning stays after cleaning sensors.

  • The system says calibration is required.

  • ACC or AEB is unavailable.

  • Lane assist never activates.

  • The issue started after windshield replacement.

  • The issue started after bumper repair.

  • The car had even a minor accident.

  • The warning appears every time you start the car.

  • Multiple safety systems fail together.

Ask the service center to:

Scan ADAS fault codes
Check camera and radar alignment
Check sensor calibration
Check software version
Check wiring and connectors
Perform ADAS calibration if needed

A proper diagnostic scan can reveal sensor faults, communication errors, wiring issues, or calibration problems. (BodyShop Business)
